Jakarta - Pihak Universitas New York terkejut bukan main setelah mendengar salah satu profesor mudanya yang sangat potensial Sam Roweis ditemukan tewas lantaran loncat dari lantai 16 apartemennya.
Rekan Roweis pantas tersentak, sebab pria 37 tahun itu selama ini dikenal sebagai seorang yang brilian. Bahkan dengan usia yang relatif masih muda, ia dianggap sebagai rising star di bidang TI.
Dikutip detikcom dari National Post, Kamis (14/1/2010), ayah dari anak kembar ini sebelum bergabung dengan Universitas New York adalah pengajar di kampus TI terkenal Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) dan Universitas Toronto pada 2001.
Craig Boutilier, Kepala Fakultas Computer Science Universitas Toronto mengakui kecemerlangan Roweis yang telah mengukir namanya dalam mengembangkan teknik yang menyederhanakan data yang kompleks, serta membantu komputer untuk lebih mudah membuat perbandingan antara gambar, wajah dan suara.
Selain itu, lanjutnya, salah satu hasil pekerjaannya adalah menciptakan program yang dapat meminimalisir efek blur dari foto yang telah diambil.
Namun apa daya, kecemerlangan otak Roweis di bidang TI tampaknya tak sanggup menaklukan cobaan rumah tangganya. Sang profesor TI ini nekat mengambil cara singkat untuk keluar dari masalah keluarga dengan meloncat dari lantai 16 apartemennya setelah pertengkaran sengit dengan istrinya.
